William C. " Bill" Boyd, 83, of Bernville, passed away suddenly on Monday evening in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center.
Bill was married to the late Joan (Schell) Boyd, who passed away May 10, 2015. Bill and Joan were married for almost sixty years.
Born in Frailey, Schuylkill County, he was the son of the late William J. Boyd and Edna Mae (Kimmel) Boyd.
He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Bernville.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He was employed by Weis Markets on fifth street in Muhlenberg Twp. as meat manager for thirty eight years.
Throughout his life Bill was a musician and loved listening to country music. He performed in bands playing the guitar and the mandolin. In earlier years he performed in Bill Boyd and The Valley Ramblers. He went on to form his own family group with his father and children named "The Boyd's'.
He was a model train enthusiast, constructing a large display at his home in Bernville.
Bill was happy and humorous, always making people laugh. He loved his 1990 Lincoln.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, especially all his grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving children, William L. Boyd of Donaldson, Schuylkill Co., James D. Boyd of Bernville, and Penny Sokolovich, wife of Leonard of Bernville.
There are six grandchildren, Bethany Clark, Andrew Sokolovich, William J., Alyssa, and Morgan Boyd and Nicholas Sokolovich.
Also, two great grandchildren, Killian Clark and William J. Boyd, II.
He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Kimmel.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 11 am in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St., Bernville with Rev. Robert Argot officiating.
A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday morning from 10 am until time of service in the funeral home.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
