Ruth S. (Kurtz) Troutman, 88, formerly of Bernville, died of natural causes on November 4, 2014, at The Highlands of Wyomissing where she had resided since November, 2008.
Born November 14, 1925 in Stricklerstown, Lebanon Co., she was the daughter of the late Herbert & Martha (Erb) Kurtz. Her husband, Paul A. Troutman, and a brother, David Kurtz, predeceased her.
Ruth graduated from Womelsdorf High School in 1943 and continued her education at the McCann School of Business. She was previously employed by the Nosegay Flower Shop in Bernville and, prior to her retirement, by M. G. DeLong Plumbing in Bernville.
Surviving are 4 children: Carol A. Troutman, Bernville; P. Scott Walters; Joan L. (DeLong), wife of Roger Steffen, Bernville; Suzanne R. Troutman, widow of John Troup, Bernville. There are 2 granddaughters: Bridget, wife of William Brandt, Bernville; and Leslie Walters, of Ligonier. Ruth has 2 great-granddaughters, Rachel & Jacqueline Kemmerling, both of Bernville. Also surviving are 2 sisters: E. Jane, wife of Henry Steiner, Womelsdorf; and Mary Ann, wife of George Ruth, Womelsdorf. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Troutman was member of St. John's Host Church, Bernville. She was active in the Bernville Flower, Women's, and 4-H Clubs. Ruth was an avid gardener and was known as "The Daffodil Lady. " She formerly hosted Spring Open Houses and Garden Tours at "The Meadows," her country home.
Services are private at the convenience of the family, with internment at Host Church Cemetery.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at St. John's Host Church, 36 Host Church Road, Bernville, on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 1:00PM; Pastor L. Longenecker officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville.
Ruth loved flowers and would be honored to have a seed, bulbs, or shrub planted in her memory.
