Rudolph J. "Rudy" Bentz, Sr. 91, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, of Leesport, formerly of Laureldale, passed away Thursday, November 21st
in St. Joseph Medical Center.
He was married to Barbara (Kirlik) Bentz. Rudolph and Barbara were married for sixty seven years and he was her loving caregiver in recent years.
Born in Birdsboro, he was the son of the late George and Rose (Maizel) Bentz.
He was a machinist for thirty one years at the former Bethlehem Steel, Fabricating Division, in Pottstown retiring in 1976. Then, for seventeen years, he was employed for Holy Guardian Angels Elementary School retiring in 1995.
He loved his church, as a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.
He was proud of his military service having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Third Class Petty Officer with one stripe serving for four years. He earned a Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Medal, and a Victory Medal.
He was a past president, vice president, secretary, and librarian of the Reading Philatelic Society where he was a life member.
Surviving with his dedicated wife Barbara are two sons, Dr. Rudolph J. Bentz, Jr., husband of Jill of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Lawrence S. "Larry" Bentz, husband of Dee of Leesport who opened their home to Rudy and Barbara so they could live independently and together in their golden years. There is one daughter, Rosemary (Bentz) Anthony, wife of Dr. Mark Anthony of Elmira, New York.
Also, one sister, Mary (Bentz) Chabak, wife of Edward Chabak of Virginia.
There are six grandchildren, Samantha and Abigail Bentz, and Michael, Jonathan, Allison, and Maxwell Anthony.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 30th at 10 am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Rd., Hyde Park, Reading, PA 19605. A viewing will be held Saturday morning in Holy Guardian Angels RCC from 9 am until time of Mass. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery where military honors will be performed by Post 217, Topton American Legion Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Guardian Angels RCC at the above address. The Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc. Temple is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
