Robert A. Long, passed away peacefully at his home on January 26, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 15, 1941, Robert was a cherished member of the community who dedicated his life to service and family.
A proud graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1961, Robert went on to honor his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. After completing his military service, he began a successful career with the Reading Water Department, where he worked diligently until his retirement. Following this, Robert continued to serve the community in a different capacity, taking on the role of Security Guard for SGI at the Court House and the Service Center.
Robert was known for his passion for sports, especially his unwavering support for the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Celtics, Penn State, and the Philadelphia Eagles. In his leisure time, he enjoyed visiting casinos and had fond memories of fishing and hunting. He was also a previous member of the former St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Reading, where he found connection and fellowship with others while serving on the Church Council.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Joyce (Heffner) Long; his son, David Long, and daughter-in-law, Emily; and his cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Elaine. Robert is also remembered by his beloved sisters, Barbara Ernst, wife of Norman, and Bonnie Eiche, wife of Barry, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence M. and Esther D. (Garverich) Long.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for a viewing at Milkins Trymbiski Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Road, Temple, PA, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
The burial will take place in Laureldale Cemetery.
