Paul S. "Pat" Haines, 83, of Riverview Park died Thursday, May 12th in the Reading Hospital under Heartland Hospice Care and with loved ones by his side.
He was the widower of Joyceann (Smith) Haines who died March 6, 1990.
Paul was born in Reading on March 10, 1933. He was the son of the late Paul W. and Blanche (Kurtz) Haines.
He is survived by his companion of the past 15 years Mary Rieser of Reading.
Surviving is his daughter Carolann H. wife of James M. Seifrit of Shoemakersville.
Paul loved his granddaughter, Rachel Joy Seifrit, who is a student at Lebanon Valley College.
Paul was fortunate to enjoy time with his nieces and nephews; Susan Tuckey, Peter Tuckey, Linda May; all of Lancaster, and Nathan Tuckey of New Jersey.
He also enjoyed his relationship with his two cousins; James Kurtz of Reading, and Barbara (Kurtz) Noll of Virginia.
Mr. Haines was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen (Haines)Tuckey, wife of the late (Robert Tuckey)
Paul was a life member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton, and served as president of church council and its cemetery board. He also was a member of the junior choir and a Sunday school teacher.
In 1943 Pat was in fifth grade and was the youngest member of the drum line of the Muhlenberg High School from which he graduated in 1951.
Mr. Haines at age fifteen in 1948 was the youngest person to have their pilot's license.
He was a member of the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, and he enjoyed any conversation that centered around airplanes. He loved attending the Reading Air Show because of the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds. He enjoyed the rumble the airplanes created in his chest.
He was a life member of the Muhlenberg Lions Club beginning in 1958. And served as president in 1968-69. Pat enjoyed his time at the Locust Ridge Hunting Camp where he was the chief cook and bottle washer during hunting season and vacation with the "Bridge Club."
Paul served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Thule, Greenland where he rewound motors. He was honorably discharged in 1961 from the USAF reserves.
Mr. Haines was employed forty-nine years last working as the shop supervisor for the former Standard Electric of Reading. He began working at the age of thirteen, sweeping floors, and continued until he retired in 1995.
Funeral services from Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 170 Tuckerton Rd., Reading, PA 19605 on Tuesday, May 17th at 11 am with the Reverend Dr. Robert Stewart, Reverend Nathan Tuckey and the Reverend George May officiating. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service in Good Shepherd UCC.
Please wear any shade of blue and white if you are attending the funeral services to represent Pat's love for Penn State and the U.S. Air Force.
