Michael F. DeLong

Michael F. “Balboa” “Schmidty” DeLong, 66, of Bernville, passed away Saturday morning in Tower Health, Reading Hospital.

He was the beloved son of Janice C. (Sheidy) DeLong of Bernville and the late Mark G. DeLong.

He was a 1973 graduate of Tulpehocken High School.

He was employed by Boyertown Foundry where he was a dedicated employee and rarely missed a day of work.

Michael was a devoted athlete playing little league baseball, men’s softball, and high school basketball.

He also excelled at playing playground ping pong.

He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and loved watching the Eagles, Phillies, and 76ers.

Michael also enjoyed jogging.

He loved his pet dogs, “Sam” and “Princey”.

Michael will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving along with his loving mother Janice, are four loving siblings, Donald M. DeLong and wife Linda DeLong of Las Animas Colorado, LeRoy J. DeLong and wife Linda DeLong of Muhlenberg Twp., Diane V. Gilbert of Wyomissing, and Brian L. DeLong and Lynn Zerbe, of Pottsville.

There are several loving nieces and nephews, Lisa, Jamie, Christy, Kim, Katy, Tom, Sara, Matthew, Alex, Zach, and Bella.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5th at 10:30 am in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St., Bernville with Pastor Stephen Hollinger officiating.

A viewing will take place Friday morning from 9:30 am until 10:30 am in the funeral home.

Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Bernville.
