Mary P. Leitzel

Mary P. (Polit) Leitzel, 76, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, of Jefferson Twp., passed away Sunday, July 12th in Manor Care Health Services, Sinking Spring.

Mary was the loving wife of Lawrence F. Leitzel. Mary and Lawrence were married for fifty two years.

Born in Minersville, she was the daughter of the late John Polit and Sophie (Skawinsky) Polit.

Mary graduated from Mahanoy Twp. High School. She received a degree in education from former Kutztown Teacher's College, now Kutztown University.

Mary was a first grade school teacher for the Tulpehocken School District in Bethel. She was employed by the Tulpehocken School District from 1962 until 1999.

Mary was a member of St. Francis De Sales in Robesonia.

Additional survivors include two loving sons, Lawrence J. Leitzel of Harrisburg and Dwain A. Leitzel, husband of Maureen of Macungie.

There are two grandchildren, Andrew and Thomas Leitzel.

Also, a sister, Helen Furhman, widow of Earl of Bernville.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening July 15th from 7 until 9 pm in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St., Bernville.

A Office Of Christian Burial With Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, July 16th at 11am in St. Mary's Catholic Church Of Byzantine, 621 West Mahanoy St., Mahanoy City, PA 17948 with Father James Carroll celebrant.

A viewing will be held on Thursday morning from 10 am until time of service in the church.
Interment will follow the service in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.
