Mary Hehn, 92, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, at Penn State Health St. Joseph's Hospital. Born on February 19, 1932, in Manhattan, NY, to the late Michele and Giuseppina (Costa) Aquino, Mary led a life marked by dedication and love for her family.
A graduate of Washington Irving High School, class of 1949, Mary embarked on a successful career working as a secretary in various law offices between New York and New Jersey. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and making quilts by hand.
Mary took great pride as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her heart was filled with childhood memories growing up in an Italian family and moments spent with her grandchildren—Joseph, Anthony, Annamaria, Christina, Vincent, Michael, Jillian, and Faith. She derived great pleasure and purpose from nurturing and being present in their lives, laughing, playing scrabble, and sharing stories that would become the fabric of her family's history.
Mary was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Church. Her compassionate spirit shone through her volunteer work with the SMILES Program in the library of Andrew Maier Elementary School, sewing handmade receiving blankets for young mothers at Mary’s Shelter and up until recently, Tuesday mornings at ReStore. Mary’s faith and service to the community embodied her values and the love she had for those around her.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Claudia Rudderow, wife of Joseph Rudderow III, and Paula Fiumaro, wife of James Fiumaro. She also leaves behind her beloved brothers, Michele Aquino and Anthony Aquino. She was predeceased by her parents, Michele and Giuseppina, her husband, Howard, her daughter Maria Asper, her sister Gilda Scala, and her brother Ralph Aquino.
Her life will be honored with a viewing on August 29, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Milkins Trymbiski Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Road Temple, PA. Following the viewing, a Mass will be held at Holy Guardian Angels RC Church 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading PA, at 12:00 PM. Mary will then be laid to rest at St. Mary's Mausoleum in South Amboy, NJ, at 3:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary's name may be made to Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, 2811 Moyers Lane, Reading, PA 19605, or online at mscreading.org.
