Marvin J. "Red" Balthaser

May 3, 1919 — June 18, 2014

Marvin J. "Red" Balthaser, 95, formerly of Riverview Park, passed away Wednesday, June 18th at Berks Heim.

He was the widower of Dorothy L. (Stone) Balthaser, who passed away January 12, 2013.

Born in Lyons, he was the son of the late Wayne and Mamie (Hassler) Balthaser.

Marvin was a graduate of Kutztown High School and McCann School of Business.

He was a printer for the former Craftsman, Inc. in Kutztown and retired from the Reading Eagle Co.

Marvin was an army veteran of WWII. He served in the 9th Infantry Division and saw action in Northern Africa and Sicily. He landed on D-Day (Utah Beach) and participated during the Battle of the Bulge through Belgium and into Germany. He served with the occupation force at the end of the war.

Marvin was a member of VFW and the American Legion.
He was also a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton.

Surviving are his daughters: Judith A., wife of Robert Heffner, of Wyomissing; and Patricia J. Balthaser and partner Richelle Angstadt, of Tampa, FL.
Also surviving are half-brothers: Malcolm, Barry, Bruce, and Delman Balthaser, all of the Kutztown area; and half-sisters: Betty Moore of Blandon and Kathleen Welder of Kutztown.
There are two grandchildren: Robert, Jr. and Matthew, husband of Andrea; and a great-granddaughter, Lily.
He was predeceased by half-siblings, Donald Balthaser and Jackie Hums.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 21st at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 170 Tuckerton Rd., Reading, PA 19605, with Rev. Dr. Robert A. Stewart officiating.
There will be a viewing from 9 a.m. until time of service in the church.
Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marvin's memory may be made to the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ Building Fund at the above address.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., Temple.
