Our dear "Aunt Mamie" passed peacefully on Saturday evening, April 2, 2016 at the Reading Hospital following a brief stay where she sustained inoperable injuries in a fall from her hospital bed.
Mamie (Domenica) Teresa Camilli was the sixth child of seven born on May 17, 1925 to the late Giovanni and Maria (DiAscentis) Camilli who emigrated from Ascoli Piceno, Italy to the U.S., settling in Temple, PA. A lifelong resident of Temple, she later resided at the Sacred Heart Villa, where she made many friends. She recently moved to Hearthstone at Amity. Until her retirement, she was employed as a cosmetology teacher in the Brownstown Area Vocational Technical School. A graduate of Temple University she earned a degree in education (Master's Degree plus advanced credits), after enrolling in college while middle-aged. She also graduated from Muhlenberg High and previously worked at the fashionable Whitner's hair salon.
Although one of the youngest in birth order, in many ways Mamie was the family matriarch. While never married and without children of her own, Mamie's kind and caring devotion to many generations of her family and friends enriched and fulfilled her life. She was predeceased by John Michalski (Jan), Elvin and Grace Adams, Jane Sweigart, brothers Corrado(Janet), Frank (Helen), Fred (Loretta) and Louis Camilli and sisters Viola Michalski (John) and Rose Cittadini (Frank).
She is also survived by Robert and Pat Adams, Dennis Sweigart and Barbara Camilli and by her loving nieces and nephews including: Patricia Dunlap, Wendy and Gregg Adams, Lois and Beth Sweigart, Michael and Mary Michalski, Mary Ann and Charles Mohn, Dolores, Frank, Eileen, Greg, Donna and Susan Camilli, Joan and John Boraski, Kathy and Cam Yorkston, Linda and Mike Bell and Deborah and Robert Rogers. Several grandnieces and nephews also survive their loving aunt, including; Michelle Satz, Michael Dunlap, Angela Arce, Raymond Michalski, Jennifer and John Boraski, Kristina and Duncan McNiff, Andrew and Kristina Michalski, Emily and Carlo Cricco, Laura Rogers, Benjamin Bell, Jessie Dunlap and Phillip Satz among others.
For everyone who knew Mamie, she was a special person, good friend, loving daughter, sister, and aunt. She was full of compassion, charity and lived a very generous and experience filled life. She enjoyed reading, traveling to many places throughout the world and the United States, learning about various cultures and religions and sharing her memories with friends and family.
Mamie's devotion, generosity and unconditional love of her immediate and extended family was uncommon. She was always there for everyone doing all she could, without hesitation, offering any type of support and assistance needed in good or distressing times. She was devout in her faith and dedicated to the importance of religion, education and travel. Our lives have been enriched by the many life lessons we learned from her example and the life she chose to lead. Generosity, kindness, loyalty and love of family were the hallmarks of a life well lived.
