Luther David Schlott, Jr., 89, formerly of Laureldale, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, in Reading, Pennsylvania. Born on April 27, 1935, in Reading, he lived a life marked by dedicated service, love for family, and passions that brought him joy.
Luther retired after a commendable thirty-year career as an engineer with Western Electric, later known as AT&T and Lucent, followed by his tenure at ASI Mechanical. His commitment to his profession was evident throughout his career, where he contributed significantly to the field.
A proud graduate of Muhlenberg High School, Class of 1953, Luther held a strong appreciation for education and the opportunities it presents. He was more than just a dedicated employee; he was a man who enjoyed life's simpler pleasures, including bowling and volleyball. His love for sports extended to attending the sporting events of his grandchildren, where his enthusiastic support was unwavering.
Luther is survived by his beloved daughter, Tama J. (Schlott) Hertzog; his sons, Luther D. Schlott III and wife Holly (Burkhart) Schlott, and Douglas J. Schlott. He was a proud grandfather to Robert Hertzog, Brian Hertzog and wife Sky Hertzog, Stacy Polyniak, wife of Stephen Polyniak, Amanda Schlott, Megan Orlando, wife of Sydney Orlando, and Douglas Schlott II. Furthermore, he took immense delight in his role as a great-grandfather to Noah, Morgan, Zelda, Orion, Ganon, Levi, Juniper, Vanessa, Nevaeh, and Benjamin.
Luther also cherished his relationships with his siblings, Jerome Schlott and wife Dolores, James Schlott and wife Claudia, and Darlene Haring, all of whom he held dear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther D. Schlott and Lillian (McDonald) Schlott, as well as siblings Sandra, Carl, Lillian (Buchert), and David. Their memories lived on in his heart, contributing to the foundation of love and values he passed to his own family.
In tribute to his life, a viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Milkins Trymbiski Funeral Home in Temple, PA, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will take place at Berks County Memorial Gardens in Fleetwood, PA.
Luther David Schlott, Jr. will be remembered as a devoted family man whose kindness and warmth touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends as they cherish the many memories shared with him.
