Leslie P. "Les" Weidman 73 of Jefferson Township died Friday at 2:50 P.M. in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Sandra A. (Manwiller) Weidman. They had been married forty-three years.
Les was born in Bernville on July 26, 1941. He was the son of the late Woodrow W. and Dora M. (Long) Weidman.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter; Linda J. wife of David M. Hatfield of Amity Township and son; Steven C. Weidman of Womelsdorf. He was blessed with two grandchildren; Tyler and Ashley Blatt.
Also, living is a brother; Russell C. Weidman of Shartlesville husband of Dawn.
Les was the Bernville Fire Company Chief for six years, Assistant Chief for six years and was very active in all aspects of the fire company from the time he was a teenager.
Les was a "Mr. Fix It" kind of guy and could fix anything. It may not have been pretty, but by golly it would always work! He enjoyed restoring his John Deere tractors, and sharing all of his skills with his grandson, Tyler. He was a member of the Lebanon Valley Tractor Club. He also enjoyed making various types of furniture.
Leslie graduated in 1960 from the former Penn-Bernville High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, although was never deployed due to losing his eye in the service.
Mr. Weidman started his employment during high school working for the former Stanley A. Klopp Inc. of Bernville. After serving his country he returned to Bernville and was employed thirty-five years retiring in 2006 as maintenance manager of the former Bernville Manufacturing Company. After retiring, Les was employed part-time by Martin's Trailers for five years.
Memorial services from St Thomas Church, Bernville on Friday at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend William Miller officiating. Inurnment in St. Thomas Cemetery with a procession escorted by his John Deere tractors will immediately follow. The family will receive family and friends after the services in the church social hall at a luncheon.
