Lee B. Heffner "62130" 85 of Keystone Villa at Fleetwood and formerly of Temple, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, December 3, 2015 in Reading Hospital & Medical Center.
Born in Oley Township, he was a son of the late Lee R. and Catherine (Bloch) Heffner.
He was the widower of Josepha S. "Joy" (Schera) Heffner who passed away December 20, 2004.
A graduate of Muhlenberg Township High School, Lee continued his education at Temple University in Philadelphia and the Ford Marketing Institute, Detroit, Michigan.
He was an Army veteran obtaining the rank of sergeant and was a past president of the Muhlenberg Rotary Club.
He was a successful local businessman and independent Ford dealer serving as president of Lee Heffner Ford, Inc. in Temple. Following in his father's footsteps,
Lee operated many other businesses and car and truck dealerships including a Lincoln and Mercury dealership in Hamburg, and an AMC Jeep dealership in Lewes, Delaware.
He started, with his beloved wife, the Berks General Insurance Company, operated a fleet of over 200 school buses, Berks Aggregate Haulers, the Fleetwood Boat Company in Bishopshead, Maryland, STB Specialized Truck Bodies, and a fleet of salt and cinder plow trucks for the Pennsylvania State Department of Transportation.
He also operated a charter aircraft service operating out of Lewes, DE and the Reading Municipal Airport as well as having numerous rental properties. He had a love of flying aircraft, collecting model cars, buying the latest gadgets and sharing them with family members.
Lee loved picking through fresh "Old Bay" #1 steamed blue fin crabs by the bushel on old newspapers and boating on the Northeast River and up and down the East coast, once having up to five boats in the marina.
He was a generous man, always giving of his time and support to community organizations. He was a "one of a kind" person, and we all heard the story of how he had to give up everything but, "You're not taking away my cigars!"
