L. Michael Sassaman, 64 of Temple, PA died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Reading Hospital. Michael was born in West Reading, PA, on Christmas day, 1952 to the late Harry A. and Gladys F. (Kutz) Sassaman. Married for 43 years, he was the devoted husband of Terra L. (Young) Sassaman.
Michael was the Lead Satellite Technician at the Reading Hospital for the past 15-years. Prior to that position, he spent 23 years working at the former Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Agere companies. He was a Union Rep at AT&T for many years, served as Treasurer for Local IBEW 1898 Union and also Chief Steward, member of Movement of Personnel Committee, volunteer at the Helping Hands Food Pantry, and a member of Executive Board at the Union Hall in Laureldale. In his leisure time, Michael could be found with a fishing pole in his hand, casting a line at his favorite Maidencreek hot spots or saltwater fishing out on the ocean. He was a great cook, he and his wife Terra would cook meals together. Michael loved animals, he was particularly fond of cats and had an outside colony of strays which he cared for. Most of all, Michael enjoyed the fellowship of family and good friends with whom he made many fun memories. He was a member of Zion Spies Lutheran Church and he was actively involved in the social program, Family Promise where he cooked and cared for the homeless. Michael's generosity and selflessness will forever be remembered.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his sister, Robin L. Prins of Temple, PA and his brother, Harry D. Sassaman, husband of Diane also of Temple, PA; a sister-in-law, Tina L. Skorupsky, wife of Robert; and a brother-in-law, Scott J. Young. He is also survived by two nephews, Christopher Sassaman, Alan Sassaman; two nieces, Brandy L. Skorupsky, Heather Ann Hohl, wife of Ryan; and three great nephews: Ethan R. Jacob R., Lucas T. Hohl.
In addition to his parents, Michael is predeceased by a brother, Terry L. Sassaman and his wife, Darlene Sassaman; a brother-in-law, Rodger A. Young; and his mother and father-in-law, Geraldine B. (Sperber) Young and Raymond J. Young as well as many feline and canine companions that he cared for over the years.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
