Joseph A. "Fiddling Joe" Orban, 93, of Bernville, passed away on May 12, 2021 at the Hershey Medical Center.
Born on October 2, 1927 in Northampton, PA, he was a son to the late Ignatz and Theresa (Memeth) Orban. Joe was the husband of the late Gertrude M. (Shade) Orban with whom he shared 59 years of marriage at her time of passing on January 17, 2013.
Joe was a proud Veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. He was employed by the Berkshire Country Club for 31 years where he worked as the grounds keeper until his retirement. He previously worked for WKAP Radio - Allentown in 1949 where he was known as Pop Joe and the Mountaineers. Joe was an active member of Friden's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bernville where he sung in the church choir for many years. He also was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 401-75 and served as a Board Executive for 30 years. Joe was a life member of the NRA and Ivy Leaf, he also held memberships at Shartlesville Fire Company, Northkill Rod an Gun, The National Law Enforcement Museum and Mount Pleasant Fire Company. Joe was an accomplished fiddler and well known as Fiddling Joe having won many awards over the years.
Joe is survived by his children, Richard A. Orban, widower of Deborah Orban and Gloria J. Reifsnyder, widower of Thomas C. Reifsnyder, both of Penn Township. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Joseph L. "Joey" Orban, companion of Emily, Thomas J. Reifsnyder, companion of Kayla and Renee Orban, companion of Scott.
He was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters.
A Viewing will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am in Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main Street, Bernville, PA 19506 with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00am.
Burial will take place in Haag Cemetery, Bernville.
