Joan Ethel Hoffman Simmons passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10th, 2015.
Joan was born on June 26, 1936 to Walter D. Hoffman and Ethel G. Hoffman.
She lived her early childhood in Elkins Park, outside of Philadelphia, and graduated from Cheltenham High School, before her family moved to the Reading area.
Joan loved caring for her horses and all animals, throughout her entire life. She was a leader of one of the first 4H Clubs in Pennsylvania. Over her lifetime, Joan was featured in numerous parades, riding proudly on horseback, down Reading's Penn Street during many parades in the 1950's and '60's.
Joan is lovingly remembered by her husband Leonard Simmons, and her devoted step-son Michael Simmons, who both reside in Reading.
Joan was previously married to the late Dominic Joseph Martorana, the father of her beloved son Kevin Martorana, who lives with his wife Sondra, in Lancaster, PA.
A memorial visitation with the family will take place on Friday, July 17th in the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA at 6:30 pm and it will end promptly at 8 pm. Following the Memorial, the immediate family will retire to a separate location.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
