Jessie V. Schell, 85, of Bern Twp., passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24th surrounded by her loving husband Paul and family.
Born in Harrisburg, PA on October 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Gertrude (Stark) Keagel.
Jessie was baptized and grew up in Market Square Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg. She began singing in the children's choir and continued studying vocal under the former Professor of Music, Earl Miller, from Messiah College.
Jessie was married in 1950 and moved to Reading in 1953 where she and her husband Paul opened Schell's Drive-In and Miniature Golf. 64 years later, their barbeque is still Jessie's original - and secret - recipe.
She continued singing at First Presbyterian Church Choir of Reading from 1953 to 2011. In addition, she traveled to England with a select choral group where they performed at Royal Albert Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She also sang with the Reading Madrachor Choir.
Jessie also served in many other areas at First Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Circle Leader, and many other capacities. She was also a great lover of animals.
In addition to her husband Paul, Jessie will be sadly missed by her two sons, Dennis and Scott and his wife Laura, both of Bern Twp.; her four grandchildren: Blake and his wife Jen of Charlotte, NC; Ashley and her husband Brian Jessen of Chicago; Andrew and his wife Mia of Sweden and Reading; and Kaitlin Schell of West Chester.
There is one great-grandchild, Harrison Jessen, son of Ashley and Brian.
She leaves one sister, Ada Gochnauer of Reading.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Biggs and Annamary Cook; and a brother, John Keagel.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
