Irene R. (Sonon) Reed

Irene R. (Sonon) Reed, 91, of Bernville, passed away Thursday, November 10th in Berks Heim.

Irene was married to the late John R. Reed who passed away October 1, 2013.

Born in Bernville, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Sonon and Lizzie (Neiswender) Sonon.

Irene was a very active and longtime member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Bernville. She sang in the choir beginning at the age of five and continued until moving to Berks Heim a few years ago. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at Friedens Lutheran Church.

Irene was the former treasurer of the Women’s Club of Bernville and a Judge of Elections in Bernville

Irene was a graduate of Penn Bernville High School.

She was formerly employed by Burkey’s Restaurant and the shoe factory both in Bernville and the American Causality Insurance Company.

Survivors include her children, Jacel S., widow of Terry L. Bashore and Kevin S. Reed both of Shartlesville and Terry S. Reed of Hawaii.

She was predeceased by a son, Steven S. Reed who passed away February 6, 2012.

There is a sister, Jane Reed, wife of Stanley Reed of Bernville and she is predeceased by sisters, Pauline “Becky” Sonon and Shirley Irwin.

There are six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

The Kirkhoff Funeral Home in Bernville is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
