Gregory Louis Woellner, 61, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 5:25 pm in Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County. Gregory was born on November 15, 1956 in Reading, PA to the late Louis and Genevieve (Horodynski) Woellner.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his two sons, Anthony J. Woellner and Jeremy A. Woellner, as well as his siblings; Daniel J. husband of Lynn Woellner of Blandon, John S. husband of Michele A. Woellner of Blandon, Karen widow of Don Caruso of Narvon, PA , and Mary Ann Bartal of Temple.
Master Sergeant Woellner dutifully served during the Cold War and the Persian Gulf War. He retired from The United States Air Force with twenty years of service to his country. While in the service, he maintained and taught Electronic Warfare systems for many aircraft such as the B-52, F-4, A-10, F-16 and AC-130. He received many accolades throughout his military career, including the Air Force Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. He received a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina, Associate's in Applied Science in Electronics Engineering Technology, and Instructor of Technology Military Sciences from the Community College of the Air Force.
Gregory was employed by the federal government as a training instructor at Tobyhanna Army Depot for the past fifteen years, where he taught and developed advanced electronics courses, such as Digital Communications, Electronic Warfare, Antennas and Phased Array, Radar, Robotics, Lasers and Microwave Fundamentals.
He was an innovative and self-sufficient handyman, who loved completing home projects, landscaping, and fixing electronics. Most importantly, he was a caring and loving father, who enjoyed spending time with his sons and sharing his knowledge, drive, and discipline.
Mass and Christian burial will be held at St. George Chapel, Gethsemane Mausoleum on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 9:00 am with Father Thomas Bortz the celebrant. Full military honors will be provided.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in the evening from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc. Temple.
