Felix "Pop" Lombardo

Felix "Pop" Lombardo 86 of Cumru Township died Monday at 4:23 P.M. in the Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Julia T. (Roccamanta) Lombardo. They had shared sixty-five years of marriage first meeting in junior high school.

Felix was born on April 2, 1928 in Reading. He was the son of the late Joseph A. & Caroline (Zaffiro) Lombardo.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son; F. Joseph husband of Lois A. Lombardo of Wyomissing, and a daughter; Janine L. Tiffany of West Lawn.

Felix adored his grandchildren; Felicia & Joshua Lombardo and Michael & Daniel Tiffany. To Pop, family was everything. You could be sure to see Pop at the grandkids' games and events.

Felix was a member of St. John the Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington since 1956. Prior to that he had attended Holy Rosary Parish where he and Julia were married. At St. John's he was an active member of the Prime Timers. Felix was a fourth degree Knight belonging to Holy Name Council Knights of Columbus #7179 and Pius IX Assembly.

As a teenager, Felix started working in father's grocery store the former People's Store which was located at Third and Washington streets. Felix graduated in 1946 from Reading Catholic and attended the Wharton School of Business for one year. He enjoyed music and was the leader of a musical group Felix Lombardo and the Royal Knights.

After his schooling at Wharton, he then went to work for the Acme Markets where he apprenticed in a three year manager program in the meat department. After completing the program, he became Acme's youngest manager. Whenever a new store was opened in the area, Felix was selected to be manager to get the meat department up and running smoothly. He retired in 1990 after 42 years of service with the former Acme Markets.

After retirement, he and our mother traveled the country and he was proud to say that he had visited every state in the union with the exception of North Dakota and Alaska.

From 1991 until 2012 when not attending grandchildren's events or working for the Knights, he volunteered his time at the Owls baseball field along with his lifelong friend Ted Palka for whom the field is named.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. with Father Richard Clement the celebrant from St. John the Baptist R.C. Church , 42 Kerrick Road, Shillington, PA 19607. Family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass.

Entombment in Gethsemane Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be offered in Felix's memory to the church at the above address.
