Eugene "Gino" Appolloni, 78, of Temple, passed away on Sunday, June 30th in Reading Hospital.
He was married to Mary Jane "Patti" Appolloni for 39 happy, adventurous years. Patti passed from this world into the next in 2011.
Born in Minersville, Pennsylvania, Gino was the son of the late Jenno James Appolloni and Martha Stella Appolloni.
Gino was a great man not only for his personal achievements, but more for the quality of character he achieved as a man.
He was employed by AT&T in Reading for 34 years, retiring in 1992. Gino hosted the annual Neuroth Memorial Tool Room Golf Tournament for his fellow employees for the last 33 years.
Gino served in the United States Army for six years. He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church.
He enjoyed music, playing the keyboard, traveling, sailing, golf, bowling, and telling stories and jokes. Gino was an accomplished traveler, having taken many trips by boats, bus, planes, trains and automobiles with his wife and friends. Gino enjoyed the company of many friends in a variety of social activities, such as his bowling team, attending church, playing Polish poker, breakfast out and dinner at St. Marco Society as a lifetime member.
He is survived by his son, Brian Eugene Appolloni, husband of Ann, of Elverson, PA.
Additional survivors include his grandchildren: Amanda Jean Baker, Ashley Melissa Brennan, and Alexa Nichole Brennan. There are six great grandchildren: Alexis, Brandon, Reiley, Brennan, Giovanni, and Rory. He is survived by two sisters, Edith Hinnershitz and Eva Palumba. Gino is survived by many relatives and was especially close to three nieces, Paula Alexander of Berlin, Maryland, Jeanie and Shelby Rivera of Leesport, Pennsylvania, and one nephew, Christopher Hernandez, husband of Patti, of Reading, PA.
Family and friends may attend a viewing on Friday, July 5th from 8:30 - 10:00 am in the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA. Following the viewing, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Rd., Hyde Park, Reading, PA 19605, with Father Michael Camilli and Rev. Msgr. Dennis T. Hartgen as celebrants. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, located beside the Holy Guardian Angels Church.
