Elizabeth "Betty" Shide, 95, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Laurel Center in Hamburg, Pa where she had been a resident since 2012. Born in Easton, Pa, she was a daughter of the late James Herb of Easton, Pa and the late Edna R. (Peters) Reeves-Trommatter of Temple, Pa. Betty was a resident of Temple most of her life. She graduated from Shillington High School, class of 1941.
Betty was employed for 15-years as a unit manager of Sarah Coventry Jewelry Co. She was a real estate agent and Berks County Assessor for several years. She retired after 20-years as a teletype operator and cashier for Shop-Rite of Reading in Laureldale, Pa.
Betty was the first woman council member of the Temple borough and served several terms. She also served several terms as the Chair of the Temple Democrat Committee. She was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ in Temple for over 60-years where she was an Elder. Betty also served as liaison for Diakon of Topton.
Her greatest enjoyment was as a volunteer driver for Diakon Lutheran Home. She would also drive her friends to hospital and doctor appointments. Betty was devoted to helping others and enjoyed visiting with friends who were unable to get out on their own.
Betty also liked flower gardening at home and birdwatching at her backyard feeders.
She is survived by a son, Craig, husband of Kimberly of Andreas, Pa and a daughter, Tracy of Frackville, Pa; three grandchildren: Craig Shide Jr of Thornlie, Western Australia, Denise Carrell of Index, WA, and Joshua Shide of Kansas City, KS; seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Joyce Kline of Florida and Jean Peruso of Easton. Betty is predeceased by a grandson, Shilo Shide and by her brother James, Jr. of Easton.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA 19560, officiated by Reverend Dr. Harry L. Serio of Christ Church UCC, Temple. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
