Charles Edward Snelson, of Ephrata, PA, formerly of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, April 9, 2018 at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family.
Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maragaret Louise (Peg) Snelson; his daughters and their husbands, Mary Ellen (Snelson)and Jonathan Whitney of Albany NY, and Nancy Jo (Snelson) and Brian Johnson of Mohnton, PA; two granddaughters, Laura Leva of Wichita, KS and Carol (Leva) and Matthew Gilpin; and two step grandchildren, Victoria Johnson and Malcolm Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his two sons, Philip Craig Snelson and Charles David Snelson.
Charles was born on September 20, 1926 grew up an only child and raised by his adoptive parents , Hannah and Philip Snelson in Bedford PA.
He graduated in 1945 as President of his class from Bedford HS. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps.
After serving, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1950 with a degree in electrical engineering. He met and married Peg in 1954.
In addition to his illustrious career at Met Ed and GPU, Charlie led a life of service, active on the Board of Trustees and Deacons at Reading First Baptist Church; member of Rotary Club; participating in international mission trips, helping underprivileged in the community; and driving cancer patients.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and member of Shin Hollow Hunting Camp and Skunk Lodge.
He lead an active social life with many lifetime friendships and will be remembered for his sense of humor.
A memorial celebration of life service is scheduled for 10:30 am on Friday, April 13th at First Baptist Church, 210 S. 5th St. Reading PA officiated by Reverend Dr. David R. Skinner and Pastor David Turley.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
