Charles E. Roughton, 84, formerly of Temple, passed away peacefully Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pa. surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Shamokin, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Ethel (Kashner) Roughton.
Charles proudly enlisted in the US army at the age of 16 and remained so between the years of 1946 through 1951. During that time he was stationed in Germany and then Japan during the Korean War as part of the motorcade. Upon his exit from the service, he was employed by Bards Manufacturing as a foreman for many years.
Charles was an avid lover of automobiles, and was known for working on cars. He also dearly loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. Charles' generosity and caring heart will be greatly missed, he would often go out of his way to make sure his family was well taken care of.
He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Thelma (Barnhart) Roughton; daughter, Brenda Stump and her husband Rick; sons, Brian Roughton and Lamar Roughton and his wife Beverly; grandchildren, Rich Stump III and his wife Sara, Nathan Stump, Jonathan Stump and his wife Heather, Brittany Boyer and her husband Danny, and Steven Roughton; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Adam Stump and Keira and Beckham Boyer.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25 at 11 am, from the Milkins Giles Funeral Home, 4914 Kutztown Road, Temple, with Tony Pullano officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 am until time of service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
