Betty S. Leister

Betty S. (Scheffey) Leister, 93, born on July 1, 1931 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Ruth (Yocom) and Harold Scheffey. 

She married Gene Leister, who predeceased her in 1987. 

She is survived by two children, Deborah Jean Houck, wife of Herbert F. Houck, III, Temple; and Audry Jane, wife of Robert Stengel, Pottstown. 

Deborah has two children, Herbert F. Houck, IV and Steve D. Houck. Steve is engaged to Amanda Butterworth, Amanda has a daughter Kinley Bragg. 

 Audry has two stepchildren, Brett Stengel, married to Kathleen, and Lora Della Vecchia, married to Nicholas, and four step-grandsons.

Betty graduated from Pottstown High School in 1949, and attended one year of college at West Chester University, after which she went to work at Continental Bank, and retired after 30 years. 

Betty was very active at her church, Zion’s U.C.C., teaching Sunday School for years, and serving as President of Consistory. She served as President of Zion’s Women’s Fellowship, President of Pottstown Garden Club, as well as President of Pottstown Century Club. 

She loved to go out to eat and was a savvy traveler, and an excellent piano player. 

She will be sorely missed by family and friends. 

A viewing will be held at Zion’s UCC Church, 209 Chestnut Street, Pottstown, PA, at 10:00 on Tuesday, August 6, with the service to follow at 11:00. 

Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park immediately following the service.
