Barbara T. (Kirlik) Bentz,92, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, of Leesport, formerly of Laureldale, passed away Sunday, November 15th in the Reading Hospital.
Barbara was married to the late Rudolph J. Bentz, Sr., who passed away November 21, 2013. Barbara and
Rudolph were married for sixty seven years. Her family, faith, and Slovak traditions brought her great joy.
Born in Birdsboro, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Kirlik and Mary (Sovar) Kirlik.
Barbara was a faithful member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church. She was the first woman lector and Eucharistic Minister for Holy Guardian Angels RCC and served in those capacities for over twenty five years. She also volunteered her time cleaning the church for forty years.
Barbara enjoyed working as a receptionist for St. Michael's Convent for nineteen years. She also worked for many years as a medical assistant in Dr. Ziedman's office and was proud to earn her Civil Defense Medical Self Help Training Certificate. Barbara frequently used her medical knowledge and experience to help friends and family members in need of care.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Rudolph J. Bentz, Jr., husband of Jill of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Lawrence S. "Larry" Bentz, husband of Dee of Leesport who opened their home to love and care for his parents in their golden years. There is one daughter, Rosemary (Bentz) Anthony, wife of Dr. Mark Anthony of Elmira, New York.
There are six grandchildren, Samantha and Abigail Bentz and Michael, Jonathan, Allison, and Maxwell Anthony.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 21st at 10 am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Rd., (Hyde Park), Reading, PA 19605 with Rev. Msgr. Dennis T. Hartgen and Rev. E. Michael Camilli celebrants.
Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale.
A viewing will be held on Saturday morning from 9 until 10 am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church.
